Nice Program from BBC on the History of Low Carb

I recently found this program that aired on the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) 2 years ago about the history of low carbohydrate dieting.

It’s well done, interesting and gives some useful background.

My only caveat is that in spite of showing that low carbohydrate approach is better than low fat diets for weight reduction, the program ends with some doomsday scientist saying how scared he is of low carbohydrate diets until more “long term studies” are performed.

As far as I’m concerned, human civilization fared pretty well with only rare occurances of diabetes, heart attacks and cancer eating a generally low carbohydrate diet for the past 50,000 – 100,000 years while the last 30 years has demonstrated that a lowfat/high processed carbohydrate diet caused castastrophic increases in diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

I think 50,000 – 100,000 years qualifies as a “long term observational study” if you ask me.

I’m now consistently under 100 carbs a day… I feel so much better! I have more energy. I no longer take diabetes medication and my A1C levels are normal. My triglycerides have dropped to normal levels (good cholesterol up and bad down) and… Read more »
