Can you say this about your health: āI was never the same after my __________” (fill in the blank with an event).
Your event might have been physical like a car wreck or childbirth. Your event might have been emotional like the death of a loved one or being really frightened.
Your event might have been a round of antibiotics, a childhood injury, financial problems, or even when a good friend stopped talking to you.
When I say you were “never the same” I mean that after the event you seemed to change permanently.
You suddenly had chronic fatigue, heartburn, digestion problems, headaches, dizziness, attention problems or ADD.Ā You may have developed constant hunger, food obsessions, or you suddenly gained weight.
People are simply not bouncing back from life’s traumas or dramas like we used to, and I see this stress reflected everyday in my patientās overall health.
What is happening to us, and why are we not rolling with the punches like we used to? I believe that our minds and bodies work together as a complex metabolic and neurological machine.
This machine requires maintenance and care in order to work correctly. Unfortunately our modern diets and lifestyles are not giving us what we need to repair ourselves.
Physical or emotional trauma may knock your Autonomic Nervous System out of whack, which is the primary way your brain talks to your organs and systems.
One example is heartburn, which is commonly yet mistakenly thought of as too much acid production in the stomach but it is actually your brain not emptying your stomach efficiently. I have the ability to improve your autonomic function and reverse and relieve your heartburn.
Physical or emotional trauma may also accelerate metabolic inflammation, which may show up in your yearly blood work as elevated triglycerides or C-reactive protein numbers.
Again, we can work to reduce this inflammation which will improve your overall health. These might include dietary changes like increasing your Omega 3ās and decreasing your Omega 6ās, adjusting intestinal bacteria, or reducing your carbohydrate intake.
If you feel like the events in your life might be stacking up and breaking you down, they just might be.
The good news is that there are many ways you can rebuild your health, you just need to find the game plan that fits your unique needs.
